SEARCH
ENGINE SUBMISSION
|
|

Getting great rankings in search
engine results is both an art and a science. It is not just about
submission to the search engines. It is all about efficiently tackling
the many tasks related to the search engines and we discuss our
approach to each in this site.
Submitting to the Search Engines is the
first step in the process

|
At Adept Productions we specialize in writing great content designed

Search Engine Submission: Getting
Your Web Site Listed
Search engine submission is the process
of your web site listed with the various search engines. However,
getting listed does not mean that you will automatically rank well for
particular terms. It simply means that the search engine knows your
pages exist. But in order to rank well in the search engines, you have
to be listed, so submitting to the search engines is our first step.
The costs related to Search Engine Submission
The old days of free inclusion in the
search engines are almost gone. Yes there are still some search
engines out there that will index your site at no charge, but they may
take months and even years to do it. Most Search Engines these days
offer paid inclusion / submission (do not confuse this with Pay
Per Click or Cost Per Click) which guarantees that your site will be
indexed within a given period of time, typically one week. And for
this they charge you a fee.
While you can do all this yourself, it
is critical that you get your submission right the first time because
there is no going back and if your submission is written incorrectly
you will miss a great opportunity to rank well and get high search
engine rankings.
For most small sites you should allow
around $1,500 for our Search Engine Submission fees - this includes
over $1,000 of actual search engine submission fees from the Search
Engines themselves. This excludes any PPC or CPC fees for bidding on
search terms and search phrases.
Submission to Search Engines,
Directories, Crawlers, PPC's and CPC's
Since budget is always a consideration
we recommend submitting you site to those search engines and
directories that generate the most amount of traffic. Over the years,
from examining all internet statistics and the web traffic logs of our
own sites and those of your clients, we have a solid feel for which
search engines drive the most amount of traffic.
At Adept Productions we submit to the
following Directories, Crawler Search Engines, PPI's, PPC's,

Submitting to the
Directories
|
 |
|
|
Getting listed in the most important
directories is an important part of Search Engine Optimization.
Directories are normally human powered listings, by category, of the
all web sites.
-
Submitting to
Yahoo
- (paid) - the most important directory and the oldest. A good
listing in the
Yahoo directory is critical for ongoing high
search engine rankings
-
Submitting to
LookSmart - (paid) -
Looksmart is the powerhouse directory that feeds
MSN Search
and is a vital directory
-
Submitting to
Open
Directory - (free) - this volunteer human powered
directory feeds its results to many search engines an hence it is
essential to ranking well
|
Submitting to the
Crawler Search Engines
|
 |
|
|
Crawlers refer to search engines that
send out automated robots that crawl and index all text on web sites.
From the text that read the search engines then compile data bases
that yield the results we see when we type in our search phrases into
the search engines. Over time all crawler based search engines will
index all sites, however if they determine the site to be of limited
value, they might not retain the site in the index.
-
Submitting to
Google
- (free) - since
Google is the the most
popular and important search engine, it is critical to ensure that
your listing on
Google is written well
-
Submitting to
Inktomi
- (paid) -
Inktomi feeds
HotBot
with its primary search engine listings and feeds
MSN Search
with its secondary listings. It is possible it will feed
Yahoo
as well as it was recently purchased by
Yahoo
-
Submitting to
AlltheWeb - (paid) - Getting a good listing on
AlltheWeb is important as it is a major player in the
search engine game, and has loyal users that like its fast delivery
of relevant search results. it is possible to be crawled and indexed
for free with
AlltheWeb, but in our
experience it can take up to six months to appear on their directory
-
Submitting to
Teoma
- (paid) -
Teoma feeds the popular
Ask Jeeves search Engine. As
a crawler it is possible to be crawled and indexed for free with
Teoma,
but in our experience it can take up to six months to appear in
their search engine results
-
Submitting to
AltaVista - (paid)
AltaVista, the original search engine is regaining
some of it's lost popularity and is delivering relevant search
results.
|
Submitting to the pay
Per Click (Paid Listings)
|
 |
|
|
Every major search engine with
significant traffic accepts paid listings in some form or the other.
this is how they generate their revenue. Generally called sponsored
listings, they can appear above the traditional search listings, or in
side bars to the side of the traditional search engine listings.
PPC's have some tremendous advantages
and some significant disadvantages.
Advantages
-
Get to the top of the rankings
immediately
-
You don't have to have optimized site
to get to the top - your content can focus purely on selling your
product
-
You don't have to wait for the
crawlers to index your site
Disadvantages
-
It can be very expensive, based upon
how competitive the field is
-
The minute your established budget is
exhausted you site will disappear from the rankings
-
Click throughs don't necessarily mean
sales - these could just be curiosity seekers eating through your
budget.
PPC Example
Typically one sets a budget for your PPC
strategy, and you determine how much you are going to bid on your
chosen search phrases. Lets say you bid $0.25c per click on the term
Sports Photographer, you can ensure that you are ranked Number One.
Every time a surfer clicks on this link your account will be debited
by $0.25c. If you have set a monthly budget of say $100, as soon as
the 400th visitor clicks on your link, you will disappear from that
PPC index, until the next month or until you increase your monthly
budget.
-
Submitting to
Google AdWords - since
Google
is the the most popular and important search engine, it is vital to
have good ranking on the
Google Search Engine. If you
are unable to achieve good rankings through their crawler through
well written content, then you should pursue the
Google AdWords campaign, as
this will get you listed on the top of the page for the search
phrase you are targeting.
-
Submitting to
Overture - (paid) - Here you bid on your
search phrases, and based on how much you are willing to pay, you
can ensure that your company appears at number ONE on the the search
engines listings. Each time a surfer clicks on your link, your
account is debited by the amount you bid on your search term.
Overture supplies paid listings to
AltaVista,
MSN Search,
AlltheWeb and
Yahoo.
There are other PPC and CPC programs but
we feel that Google and Overture have the greatest relevance and will
generate more traffic per dollar spent. |
